SUMMERSIDE – City council is looking into traffic related issues brought up by residents.
Deputy mayor Bruce MacDougall requested that a traffic countter be installed on West Drive to monitor heavier than normal volumes of traffic on the roadway.
MacDougall said that since the roundabout was installed at the entrance to Slemon Park, many motorists have opted to use West Drive, resulting in increased traffic flow.
MacDougall said this could be a safety issue due to the limited paved sidewalk area on West Drive.
Mayor Basil Stewart said he received a complaint from residents in the Elm Street area of speeding.
The mayor said residents are requesting a four-way stop be installed at the intersection of Elm and Chestnut Streets.
The issue has been turned over to the police department for further study.
