Victoria Playhouse to host Island-favourite country artists

Music will fill the theatre at Victoria Playhouse on July 15, as two local country singers come together for a night of duets.

Nudie and Whitney Rose will don the stage together for just the second time in their careers to perform a set of famous songs by such artists as George Jones, Tammy Wynette, The Louvin Brothers, Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris.

An Island star for years, Nudie has performed in venues all across North America with his classic country style.

Rose, an up-and-comer to Canadian singer-songwriter scene, started singing at her grandparent’s kitchen parties as well as in their little Island bar around the time she was able to walk and form sentences.

Nudie first heard of Rose through his friends in Toronto, who boasted of her performances. Through chance, he got to see her perform at an impromptu show in Charlottetown.

“In a world filled with hype, I was pleased to find out she lived up to the buzz that was surrounding her,” he said.

For Rose, it’s a treat to perform with a renowned artist like Nudie.

“Getting to perform in one of my all time favourite venues with one of my favourite Island artists is nothing short of dreamy,” she said.

“The experience of performing with him at the Dakota Tavern in Toronto a few months ago was seemingly laced with nostalgia, in spite of it being our first time singing together. I've been anticipating the Playhouse show ever since.”

Tickets available by calling Victoria Playhouse box office, 658-2025, or online at www.victoriaplayhouse.com. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
