SUMMERSIDE – Marketing and communications specialist Jane Sharpe has been named the new executive director of the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce.

Sharpe is the owner and founder of Miscouche-based BlackPoint Marketing and Communications.

Sharpe has 30 years of experience in the private sector that focused on business-to- business relations and has owned her own business since 2010. During the past few years, she has been involved with the chamber, including sitting on the Business Excellence committee. She is also a member of the Summerside Rotary Club and the P.E.I. Women’s Business Association.

“I’m thrilled about the job,” Sharpe said. “I’ve been a member for the past couple of years and I’ve done some work with the chamber. It’s an organization that I respect and I’m just really happy to be part of it now.”

Sharpe’s career has revolved working with businesses and sees the new position as a similar opportunity.

“It’s an opportunity to help the community, an opportunity to represent all of those businesses,” she said. “I just love working with businesses and meeting with different business people, seeing what they are doing and understanding their businesses. I’m hoping to be able to help.”

Sharpe begins her new job on March 18 and will be spending the next few weeks getting up to speed on the activities and the issues facing the chamber and the local business industry. She will be meeting with the chamber executive and the board of directors prior to starting her new role.

Sharpe will be coming in as the chamber launches one of its biggest events of the year, its annual trade show showcase.

“I know that Showcase is going to be the first big thing so that’s going to take a lot of the time going in,” Sharpe said, adding any time for a learning curve will need to be balanced with that.

“I’m excited about continuing to celebrate the businesses we have in the area,” she said. “I'malsoexcited about working to represent those businesses.”
