ALBERTON -- The chairman of the Western Hospital Foundation, David McKenna, says he is counting on the generosity of residents, organizations and businesses to help a newly formed fundraising committee reach its goal.

The Foundation is seeking to raise $600,000 needed to purchase a needed Diagnostic Digital Imaging X-ray Machine for Western Hospital.

McKenna indicated that replacement and upgrading of medical equipment and technology needs to be addressed if they are to sustain the day to day operations of the hospital, by providing their doctors with the proper diagnostic equipment to service their patients and provide the level of care they deserve.

Although the campaign won’t be officially launched until April, the committee is already in place and planning is well underway.

The committee, which is co-chaired by Alan Parker and Cletus Dunn, has been meeting weekly since early January. McKenna said the committee chairs bring a wealth of community service and leadership to the table. Also on the committee are Judy Morrissey-Richard, Anne Arsenault, Dean Getson, Fred O’Brien, Robert Carruthers, Geoffrey Irving, Vickie Gaudet and the hospital’s administrator, Cathy DesRoches.

The committee has appointed Dr. David and Donna Crocker as the honorary co-chairs of the campaign in recognition of their volunteer support and service in the health care field, including their work in orchestrating and chairing a very successful fundraising drive for the hospital in 1992.

There are some special fundraising events in the works, which the committee will announce once details are finalized, but members are already advising the public to reserve June 8 on their calendars.

First, don't you think that you ought to rectify the situation with the hospital itself. One group is trying to keep the ER open, one is trying to get doctors to work there and now you are trying to raise $600,000 for equipment while there is a good chance the govt. will close the hospital altogether. In order for you to be successful you are going to have to get absolute guarantees that the hospital will in fact be kept open. Remember, they also promised not to close O'Leary Hospital.
