SUMMERSIDE - Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart and Council are inviting all to join them in celebrating Heritage Week at the Mayor’s Annual Heritage Tea. The event will take place Friday, Feb. 22, at 1:30 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall.
This year’s tea will mark the 150th anniversary of the Summerside Fire Department.
“Fire gone astray has played a large role in the unfolding history of Summerside, and for 150 years volunteer firefighters have given of themselves to protect the city,” said Stewart.
“Past firefighters, auxiliary members, active firefighters, and their families are invited as special guests of the tea.”
Professional actor and musician, Mark Haines, will bring alive a snippet of the fire department story through vignette. Also on display will be a preview of “Into the Fire,” an exhibit of fire department pictures and artifacts which will be exhibited this summer at the City of Summerside’s Gallery 33, located inside the Summerside Armory.
During Friday’s tea, the City of Summerside will also present Heritage and Culture Awards to three recipients for their important contributions to culture and heritage in Summerside in 2012.
