BEDEQUE – A burnt power line was the cause of a power outage in Bedeque that left the community and surrounding area homes without electricity for over three hours, Thursday night.
Kim Griffin, communications officer for Maritime Electric Company Ltd. said tracing the cause of the blackout was one reason the power was out for as long as it was.
“There was a power outage last night in the Bedeque area and it was for about 1,000 customers,” Griffin said. “It happened around 9:30 p.m. and lasted until about 12:30 a.m.”
Maritime Electric crews were dispatched to Bedeque to deal with the problem.
“There was a wire burnt off at the Albany substation,” Griffin said. “When we got the call it took us a little while to find where the problem was.”
She said once the cause was discovered, power was quickly restored to the area.
