SUMMERSIDE – Senate officials have referred Senator Mike Duffy’s residency declarations and related expenses to external auditors at Deloitte for review and report.

In a release from Ottawa Friday, Senator David Tkachuk, Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration, said senators Patrick Brazeau and Mac Harb, will also be referred to the appropriate subcommittees of the Internal Economy Committee.

As well, the Chair and Deputy Chair of the committee are seeking legal advice on the question of Duffy’s residency.

From the Consolidated Statutes of Canada, one of the qualifications of Senator is, “he shall be resident in the province for which he is appointed.”

In a statement also issued today, Duffy said he is a born and bred Islander.

“I am proud to represent my province and its interest in the Senate of Canada,” said Duffy.

He added he represents the taxpayers with care.

“Canadians know I would never do anything to betray the public trust. I have a home in Prince Edward Island as required by law. I will have no further comment until this review is complete.”

Never mind Duffy, we know he hasn't lived here since he was a boy. How about Shea? She can no longer be considered an Islander after the foolish action on the EI vote last week. Ducking out like a child instead of showing us that she was going to vote in favour of the bill and not against, as the people who voted for her wished! Don't let Duffy overshadow Shea.

Well I guess it has been well proven that he is a liar. Now hopefully the RCMP can get him charged with fraud. He is stealing from every taxpayers pocket and laughing at us. He should be forced out of the Senate. We do not need or want people like him in our part of the country.

Key words, you must reside there to be appointed a Senator for there. He's from here, he did not reside here when appointed (and still doesn't). I'm tired of this foolishness for a Senator that no Islander wants representing us. Kick him out!!!!!!

Plan and simple he is not a islander. At one point he was, but has not lived on the island for a long long time. having a cottage and staying a week or two a year does not count as being an islander. Never should have been appointed senator to represent P.E.I. There are a lot of good P.E.I ers that could have been named to the senate,
