With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the P.E.I. Humane Society is looking to spread some pet love with the public.

From Wednesday, Feb. 6 to Saturday, Feb. 9, they will be reducing the price for adopting cats.

The event, called “My Purrfect Valentine”, is aimed at getting more cats out of shelters and into homes.

“What better expression of Valentine’s Day is there than by providing a new home to an animal in need,” says Sophia Ball, PEIHS contract development coordinator. “

Ball said the benefit of freeing up room is twofold.

“This will not only benefit the cats that are being adopted, but will free up some temporary space in our facilities so that we can complete some much needed renovations that will benefit all future cats coming into our care.”

The adoption fee will be reduced to $95 for adult cats (six months or older), and $145 for kittens. Included in the fee are up-to-date vaccinations, microchip identification and spay/neutering costs. All hopeful adopters must fill out paperwork before being approved.

The PEIHS has affiliate adoption services with Blue Ribbon Pet Supplies and Petsmart, who will also be taking part in the event.
