RCMP Kings District responded to the crash on Route 22 in New Perth this morning shortly after 8 am.
The lone occupant of the vehicle was travelling south on Route 22 when she lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road into the ditch. The driver of the vehicle, a 62-year-old woman, was not seriously injured and was taken to Kings County hospital for treatment.
Montague and Cardigan fire departments assisted Island EMS and used the Jaws of Life to help remove the woman from her vehicle.
No charges are pending. The highway was shut down for approximately one hour while emergency crews worked at the scene.
RCMP is reminding Island motorists that secondary roads are still snow packed and slippery. Even though sand trucks are out sand is being quickly covered by drifting snow. RCMP is urging everyone to slow down and to drive with caution, especially on secondary roads.
The RCMP would also like to remind everyone that all snow must be removed from your vehicle before entering a highway. Windows and lights should be scraped; snow and ice free before venturing onto the highway.
