SHUBENACADIE, N.S. – Fabled Forecaster and Internet sensation Shubenacadie Sam saw his shadow today, Feb. 2, then promptly tweeted the result -- Maritimers will get another six more weeks of winter.
Being in the Atlantic time zone means Sam's prediction is the first in North America.
A crowd of several hundred gathered at Sam's pen at in the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park applauded politely, when he saw his shadow.
As the legend goes, when Sam sees his shadow, he runs back into his burrow for more hibernation. The annual Groundhog Day festivities included face painting and crafts for children.
On his Twitter account @ShubenacadieSam, Sam tweeted "Thanks so much everyone for hooking me up on the Internet, I'll be back again in the spring!"
