BROOKVALE - Brookvale Provincial Ski Park took a hit with the record warm temperatures earlier this week, but operators managed to keep most of the downhill runs open.
Allan Matters, park supervisor, said the warm weather and rain closed down a few of the runs and wiped out all of the Nordic trails.
“That was quite the spell we had but we’re actually open (Friday) with six run runs out of nine open here in downhill,” Matters said. “I didn’t think that was going to happen yesterday evening. Our Nordic site, our cross country it’s toast. We faired all right over here (downhill). The guys were in a 3 a.m. covering ice and working it up. So, we’re back up and going and we’re starting to make snow tonight.”
Matters is keeping a watchful eye on the weather, particularly with periods of snow in the forecast for Monday.
“It’s suppose to snow some on Monday,” he said and that will revive the Nordic track. “We’ll just have to wait until mother nature drops us snow there because we don’t have snow making over on that site. If we can get 20 centimeters of nice wet snow, that’s all we need to get going over there.”
Brookvale will be open to skiers over the weekend.
