Police, fire services respond to overnight fire

SUMMERSIDE — A shed was destroyed in an early-morning fire in the city Thursday.

Summerside Police Services and members of the city’s fire department responded to the fire, which happened around 5 a.m. on Russell Street.

Police believe a wood stove was the cause of the fire.

INVESTIGATING HIT AND RUN

City police are investigating a hit-and-run collision that happened on Water Street East Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at 3:30 p.m.

Police say that the driver of a 2000 Subaru was stopped behind a school bus when the driver of a 1992 GMC that was exiting a parking lot hit the Subaru.

The Subaru was extensively damaged. The driver of the GMC fled the scene.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Police say that charges of failing to remain at the scene of an accident are pending against an 18-year-old Summerside man.

TIRES SLASHED

Police are investigating a report of tires being slashed on a Toyota Corolla overnight Wednesday.

The incident took place on Maple Avenue.

PLATE STOLEN

Police also received a report from a woman on High Street that her license plate had been stolen from her vehicle Wednesday. The plate number is RS302.
