House lost to fire

Cause still being investigated An investigator with the Provincial Fire Marshal’s Office was still sifting through rubble in Ellerslie-Bideford Monday afternoon trying to determine the cause of a Sunday night house fire. The Tyne Valley Fire Department responded at 8:40 p.m. and called in Lennox Island and Wellington fire departments for support. Fire destroys Ellerslie home

ELLERSLIE -- Flames were shooting through the roof when Tyne Valley Fire Department arrived at a house fire on the corner of Ellerslie Road and Harts Gravel Road shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday.

The single storey home, which had a garage built on with extra living space above it, was destroyed by the fire.

Fire chief Lowell Palmer said the house was being lived in but the owner wasn’t at home when the fire broke out.

It took about 40 fire fighters from three departments - Lennox Island and Wellington responded to the Mutual Aid call - about three hours to extinguish the fire. By that time, however, the home was destroyed.

The provincial fire marshal’s officer will have an investigator on the scene today in an effort to determine the cause.
