Big Hearts Celebration is set for Jan. 19 at Credit Union Place in Summerside.

Foundation events co-ordinator, Susanne MacDonald, said the fundraiser has come together through the efforts of several local businesses and the city of Summerside.

“Big Hearts Celebration ’13 is our major fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation,” she said. “This is the sixth annual event with fine dining, a silent auction and a dance.”

MacDonald said several businesses have come on board making donations to the silent auction.

She said some of the major items up for bids include a pearl necklace from Crockett’s Quality Jewellers, a diamond pendant necklace from Jewellery Plus, an oil painting by artist Greg Garand, a boat cruise from Cudmore Ross Wealth Management/BMO Nesbitt/Burns, accommodations and dinner theatre tickets from Quality Inn and Brothers 2 restaurant, green fees from various golf courses, and several gift certificates ranging from fitness to garden centres and veterinarian services.

Kathy Ware of Crystal Green Farms has supported the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s fundraiser for four years. Her business will be donating organically grown vegetables for the dinner.

“We’ll be providing red cabbage, carrots and turnips,” Ware said. “We got involved four years ago through the Healthy Living Group of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. They wanted a vegetable box program and gave us the funding for the boxes. We got involved because it’s nice to give something back.

MacDonald said the dinner will feature Fiveelevenwest chef, Emily McKeown.

The City of Summerside is providing the venue for the event which will be staged in the Veterans’ Convention Centre at Credit Union Place.

Music will be provided by Dr. Jim Dickson and the dance will feature Ultra Sound with D.J. Douglas MacKay.

Tickets are $75 with a $25 tax receipt and are available at the Credit Union Box Office from noon to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays or by calling 892-7441 or 1-888-473-4636.
