CASCUMPEC – West Prince RCMP is hoping to hear from anyone who might have seen anything suspicious around the time a cottage in Cascumpec went on fire early Thursday morning.

The fire call was received at 6:44 a.m. The fire marshal’s office has deemed the fire suspicious and has turned the file over to the RCMP for further investigation.

Const. John Russell from the West Prince RCMP said the fire is being treated as suspicious because there was no one living in the cottage at the time and the power to the building had been shut off for the winter.

The investigation, he said, reveals the fire likely started on the outside of the cottage or in a small housing at the front corner of the cottage that contained a water pump and a heater.
