Police were called to the accident scene, near Cavendish Farms, at around 2:30 p.m.

Two occupants are believed to have been inside the car at the time. The passenger died as a result of the crash, and there is no word on the condition of the driver at this time.

Traffic has been diverted to Route 107, the Blue Shank Road, while emergency crews work at the scene.

More details to follow as they become available.

Earlier in the afternoon, RCMP, Island EMS and firefighters were at the scene of what appeared to be another single-vehicle rollover at the corner of the Scales Pond and Newton roads near Kinkora.

Emergency workers reportedly used the Jaws of Life to help extract the occupants from the vehicle, which had left the road and came to rest on its side in a ditch.

It appeared two people were taken to hospital by ambulance. There is no word yet on their condition or on the cause of the crash.
