Storm dance team auditions start this weekend

SUMMERSIDE — Auditions are coming up for those interested in becoming a Storm Trouper.

The Storm Troupers Dance Group, which represents the Storm pro basketball team of the National Basketball League, is holding auditions on Sunday and Monday so that the dance group will be ready for the Rogers Slam Dunk exhibition game in Summerside on Friday, Oct. 26.

The opening came of the NBL regular season takes place on Friday, Nov. 2.

Charlottetown auditions will be held at the Dance Virtuosa Studio at No. 10 F.J. McAulay Court with junior team registration Sunday between 12:30 and 1 p.m. and auditions between 1 and 2. Senior registration happens between 2 and 2:30 p.m. while auditions go from 2:30 to 3:30.

Summerside auditions will be held in the new fitness room at Credit Union Place with junior team registration from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Monday and auditions from 5 to 6. Senior registration is from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and auditions between 6:30 to 7:30.

Junior age dancers will be age 15 and under while senior age dancers are age 16 and over.

Dancer, choreographer, and instructor, Kashena Bartlett, will again lead the Storm Troupers Dance Team this year. A graduate of the professional training program at DancEast Dance Centre de Danse, Bartlett has been a featured artist of DancEast & Friends' “The Nutcracker” and a soloist with the DancEast Young Company along with many other accomplishments. In the fall of 2009 she opened a new dance school on P.E.I. Island, Dance Virtuosa. She has organized a summer intensive dance program in Summerside the past three years, which has brought in instructors from across Canada and the United States as well as students coming in from both countries.
