An Alberton area man was arrested by Charlottetown police officers early Thursday after being tracked down with the help of a police dog following the theft of a vehicle, which was later crashed into a neighbourhood tree.

Charlottetown Police Services say they received a report at 12:32 a.m. regarding a stolen vehicle on Cedar Avenue. Police were informed by the owner that someone had stolen his Chevrolet Silverado from outside his residence.

Police searched the area and discovered the vehicle had struck a tree on Brackley Point Road, causing significant damage.

Footprints were observed in the snow and the Police K-9 Unit Pana began to search area. Approximately an hour later, a 19-year-old Alberton area man was located and arrested for vehicle theft.

The accused was lodged in the provincial correctional centre overnight and was to appear in court this morning to answer to the charge.
