Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Prince Edward Island as the national weather service continues to track a major storm system pushing its way towards the province.

The low-pressure system will develop south of Cape Cod early Thursday  morning and track northeastward towards the Maritimes during the day.

The storm will bring snow to most regions by evening.  Snow will begin Thursday evening on the Island with 5 centimetres forecast by midnight.

The snow will continue overnight until near dawn Friday  before it changes to rain.

Another 5 to 10 centimetres is possible by dawn Friday.  The public is advised to monitor future forecasts as  warnings may be required.

The forecast calls for rain during the day on Friday and highs of plus 6.
