Quebec native Kieran Keller officially stepped into the role of general manager of the Harbourfront Theatre on Tuesday. Keller is replacing Maurice Gallant who held the position for the past seven years.
SUMMERSIDE - Former "Anne and Gilbert" production and stage manager Kieran Keller has been hired as the new general manger of the Harbourfront Theatre.
Keller is replacing Maurice Gallant who held the position for the past seven years.
"I had been working with Maurice for the past two seasons of 'Anne and Gilbert,' and we had a very good working relationship," said Keller. "When (the general manager position) became available I immediately expressed my interest."
Keller brings more than 10 years of experience in the arts field including several years in management. Originally from Montreal, Keller majored in theatre at Concordia University. He began visiting Prince Edward Island in 2001 and officially moved to the Island about five years ago.
"I started with the Confederation Centre of the Arts as a stage manager my first summer with the Charlottetown Festival and came back a couple of times, eventually fell in love with the Island and decided to make a go of it," Keller said.
He has held a variety of positions in cities across eastern Canada both in arts and in business. He says although his experience in business is an invaluable asset for him, his heart has always led him to the arts.
"I have tried the business administration side and I've tried the arts side and eventually I always come back to the arts, it's what I love to do. So I really feel at home in these kinds of positions where you're trying to find the balance between the two," said Keller.
He officially stepped into the role as general manager on Tuesday. He said he has big shoes to fill, but that he is ready for the challenge. His first plan of action is to network.
"I'm going to fill my calendar with introducing myself and building on the relationships that have already been established, with the city, province and even federally," said Keller.
Keller said from there he will be making an effort to learn and bring together the desires of the local audience and off-Island visitors.
"I want to tap into that psyche of the audience out there and really understand what they want," said Keller. "I don't want to push an agenda, I want to feed people what they want."
