SUMMERSIDE - An 11-year-old cyclist struck by a vehicle on Monday was not seriously injured because he was wearing a helmet, RCMP say.

The young boy was crossing the intersection at Reads Corner around 6:45 p.m. on Labour Day using the pedestrian crosswalk.

The boy was struck by a silver colored vehicle making a left turn off Route 1A onto Water Street.

The boy was knocked off his bicycle, but was wearing his helmet properly and didn't require any medical attention.

The vehicle stopped momentarily and then started to pull into the parking lot of the Reads Corner Esso, police say.

When the boy got up and began to leave, the driver of the vehicle continued travelling along Water Street East into Summerside.

After the boy returned to his residence, his father contacted East Prince RCMP to report the collision.

Police are requesting the driver of the silver colored automobile, or anyone with information about the collision, to contact the detachment at 436-9300 in order for the driver to fulfill their reporting requirements under the Highway Traffic Act.
