SUMMERSIDE – One of Summerside’s oldest parks is getting a facelift.

The city is making improvements to Schurman Park, which will enhance the safety, esthetics, and functionality of the park.

Repairs and upgrades are being made to the asphalt, fencing and court structures of the basketball court in Schurman Park. This will improve the recreational facilities for basketball in the community. This improved court will complement the city`s other basketball court at the Wilmot Community Centre.

The park`s swing sets will remain.

The tennis courts in Schurman Park, which have been officially out of service since 2002, are being removed. This area of the park will be returned to passive green space area. Over the course of the last 12 the courts became unsafe and unsightly, the rusting and damaged fencing surrounding the court area made the entire park look very rundown. Residents are reminded that the city does have an additional three tennis courts at Credit Union Place and another two at the Wilmot Community Centre for their enjoyment.
