SUMMERSIDE — The City of Summerside is putting out the call for its annual Culture and Heritage Awards.

The awards recognize significant contributions or achievements in the field of culture or heritage promotion, education or preservation in 2013.
Anyone can nominate individuals or groups for a wide range of 2013 cultural or heritage projects, such as special events, artistic expressions, performance pieces, book publications, websites or restoration projects.
“Arts, heritage and culture are a vital part of our city,” said Mayor Basil Stewart. “Art, music, theatre and literature enrich our lives and make Summerside a diverse and interesting place to live. We are proud to recognize those who give so much to our fine city.”
Nominees must have made a significant achievement in heritage or cultural expression in Summerside or the geographic area it serves. Projects having one or more significant components outside the city must have a strongly rooted Summerside connection to qualify for consideration.
Nominations may be made under the following headings:
— Heritage activities
— Cultural activities
— Natural heritage activities
— Volunteer of the Year
— Youth Volunteer of the Year
— Publication of the Year
— Award of Honour.
Nomination forms are available at the MacNaught History Centre and Archives, 75 Spring St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and must be returned by 4 p.m. on Feb. 4.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Mayor’s Heritage Tea at City Hall on Feb. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
