SUMMERSIDE - - A sampling of faiths from around the world will be on offer this Sunday at Wilmot Community Centre.

The ninth annual event is part of World Religion Day celebrations in 80 countries.

"We just did it as a way to bring the different faiths or religions together for one day," said organizer Kelley Wright of how the Summerside celebration began.

This year's theme is unity.

"It seemed liked a good one for the day since we are bringing the faiths together, especially now when a lot of conflicts in the world seem to be because of disunity between one religion or another or one ethnic group or another," said Wright.

The event goes from 2-4 p.m.

The first hour consists of presentations of prayers, short readings from holy texts and spiritual ceremonies. Represented are various religions and faiths, including the Mi'Kmaq native spiritual tradition, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Baha'i Faith.

"People really don't understand a lot of times that there are different religions other than Christianity," said Wright.

Everyone is welcome to attend the free event, which is sponsored by the Baha'is of Western P.E.I.
