A major storm system is pushing closer to the Maritimes, but forecasters say at this point Prince Edward Island should be able to dodge the storm.
Four Nova Scotia counties - Shelburne, Yarmouth, Digby and Queens - have snowfall warnings issues.
Up to 25 cm of snow could fall over the extreme southern regions of Nova Scotia.
The Prince Edward Island weather forecast is calling for increasing cloudiness on Sunday.
Periods of snow beginning in the evening. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind becoming northeast 30 km/h gusting to 50 in the evening. High zero.
Environment Canada says that snow is expected to turn to rain showers on Monday as the temperature climbs to plus 2 on Monday.
The storm is currently near Cape Hatteras and will track east-northeastward today and Sunday to lie south of Nova Scotia by Sunday evening.
Precipitation ahead of the low will begin Sunday morning in southern Nova Scotia as a mix of ice pellets and snow then is expected to change over predominantly to snow by Sunday afternoon in southern Nova Scotia.
In the U.S., forecasts called for up to 20 inches (50 centimetres) of snow across the region, including Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and reaching up to New York. The same stor was expected to dump about 16 inches (40 centimetres) of snow west of Charlottesville, Virginia, and 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 centimetres) had already fallen in the U.S. capital, the U.S. National Weather Service said.
