Kensington -
It's not every day Jesus and Cleopatra are seen mingling in the school cafeteria.
Grade 10 history students at Kensington Intermediate Senior High took a step back in time Friday as they presented their year-end history project.
Teacher Kelly Gallant assigned the "Ancient Civilization Living Museum" project. She said the project helps students learn in various different ways.
"There is a major research component, there's presentations, they have to talk about the daily life back then, the economy and the culture," Gallant said.
"They truly become the character for the day."
As part of the assignment, students need to have props on display that relate to their character and must present their project while dressed as the character.
Ben McCarvill acted as Jesus for the day.
"I like being able to dress up. We get to live the history instead of just sitting in a classroom," McCarvill said. "I could tell the geography kids were jealous."
Megan MacLeod was dressed as a 28-year-old Spartan wife. During her presentation, she told her teacher about how Spartan wives competed in sports daily to demonstrate their strength while their men were away.
"It's much different than other projects," MacLeod said. "I really liked gathering up the different artifacts."
Gallant said the project has been a popular event at KISH for the past several years.
