SOURIS - The Sunday Night Hoedown at the Souris Show Hall with hosts Peggy Clinton, Johnny Ross and Gary Chipman, wraps up the summer season with a final show on Aug. 31. Special guests will be Peggy's dad, Alphy Perry, and his band Shiloh from St. Louis.
"My dad has been my musical inspiration and my mentor my whole life. I can't think of anyone else I would rather be sharing the stage with than him," says Clinton.
Clinton is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who has a CD set to launch this fall. She currently lives in Souris with her husband and four children. Her father, Alphy Perry, from near the opposite end of the Island - St. Louis, has been playing with the same group, Shiloh, for over 35 years.
Chipman is a well-known Island musician who started his musical career on the Don Messer Jubilee as a guest fiddler and has toured with musicians such as the late Stompin' Tom Connors and Anna McGoldrick. He has also shared the stage with artists such as Freddy Fender, the Carleton Showband, John Allan Cameron, Smiley Bates and Dave Dudley.
"Any time I get to share the stage with musicians like Peggy and Alphy, it's a real treat," says Chipman, co-host of the Sunday Night Hoedown. "I am playing a lot with Peggy this summer. She is a superb vocalist and I had the privilege of meeting and playing with Alphy and his band not too long ago, and I'll tell you, the audience this Sunday are going to be blown away."
Ross is a popular P.E.I. pianist from Belfast, who hosts several Island ceilidhs such as the Ross Family Ceilidh in Stanley Bridge with his two sisters and Dunes n' Tunes in Brackley Beach. Besides his piano skills he is also known for his lively antics on stage.
"Alphy Perry is an amazing musician and I am thrilled he (and his band) will be coming back to Souris," says Ross. "There are some musicians that just make you want to give it all you got on stage, and Alphy Perry is one of them," he adds.
The night's step dancer will be Souris resident, Rebeccah Lambie.
A 50/50 draw will be in support of the Souris Show Hall.
