SUMMERSIDE – Fiddling and piano duo Ivan and Vivian Hicks are two of the performers at this year’s International Children’s Memorial Place Fundraising Concert.
Tom Johnson, right, joins Vivian and Ivan Hicks at the Music Barn in Middle Sackville during a recent performance. The trio of popular local performers will be joined by fellow New Brunswick Country Hall of Fame inductees Del Wheaton and Royal Hicks next weekend to help bring the Music Barn’s season to a close.
The Hicks are well known for their contribution to the preservation and promotion of old-time fiddling throughout North America. Many albums and hundreds of concerts have made Ivan and Vivian a popular duo in the entertainment scene.
The International Children's Memorial Place 12th annual fundraising concert is taking place Sunday, May 25 at 7 p.m. at Centre Belle Alliance in Summerside.
Also performing are Milk and Honey, The Gallant Family, and Allan Sonier with daughter Taylor.
The concerts have been sold-out over the past few years, and have raised significant funds for this organization, which is run entirely on a volunteer basis and has charitable status.
The International Children’s Memorial Place, 2115 Scales Pond Road in South Freetown, was incorporated in 1999.
Understanding the healing power of nature, Bill MacLean who had lost his son in a snowmobile accident, set out to transform a former provincial park into a place where parents and families who have lost a child can visit and reflect on their loss.
Today the peaceful 12-acre park, which is open to the public, offers visitors the Everliving Forest, Path of Remembrance, Trail of Reflection, Labyrinth of Life and the newly restored Scales Pond. The site is a place of healing and solace for grieving families from P.E.I. and around the world.
Tickets for the concert are $15 and can be purchased from Ron Barrett at Century 21, 629 Water St. East in Summerside or by contacting Heather Carver at 954-0197.
Centre Belle Alliance is located at Ecole-sur-Mer, 5 Avenue Stella Maris in St. Eleanors.
