Bringing show to Harbourfront Theatre April 25

Dr. Magnificent’s Travelling Musical Medicine Show is touring the Island as part of 2014 celebrations.

P.E.I. credit unions representative, Sandra Hickey, (second from right) presents a cheque to Young at Heart Musical Theatre. Credit unions are the title sponsor for this year's production of the theatre group’s “Dr. Magnificent's Travelling Musical Medicine Show,” touring seniors’ venues, community centres and halls across P.E.I. from March 24 to May 10. Cast members Jason Burbine (left) is playing Jean Francois, Naomi-Joy Blackhall is playing Louloubelle, and Robert Clarke playing Dr. Magnificent.

The show, presented by Young at Heart musical theatre group, will be presented at venues throughout P.E.I. until May 10.

The Young at Heart troupe provides professional musical theatre experiences to seniors in care on Prince Edward Island. They usually perform at nursing homes and manors, but are taking their act to other venues as well.

The play was written by Young at Heart artistic producer Catherine O’Brien and veteran Canadian playwright and composer David Archibald.

Archibald has written and performed on “Sesame Street”, and CBC’s “Mr. Dressup”.

The play is set around the 1864 historic meetings of the Fathers of Confederation.

It’s a fictional tale about a trio who sells suspicious medicinal remedies to P.E.I. visitors.

Robert Clarke, co-writer and actor, will play Dr. Magnificent. Clarke has appeared in many plays and television shows.

Naomi-Joy Blackhall will play Louloubelle, an escaped American slave, who lands on P.E.I. by mistake.

Jason Burbine, Island native, plays Jean-Francois Gallant, an Acadian who works on the wharf and gets tangled up in the selling of the medicine.

Dr. Magnificent’s Travelling Musical Medicine Show began March 25 and will appear at several seniors’ venues, small halls and theatres across P.E.I.

The play comes to Harbourfront Theatre, Summerside, April 25, at 7:30 p.m.
