The City of Charlottetown announced Wednesday that the Charlottetown Arts Advisory Board has been established and its objectives outlined. This group was established following a recommendation by the Mayor's Task Force on Arts and Culture which presented its final report in 2013.

The board is tasked with recommending to city council arts and cultural initiatives and activities while facilitating communication within the Charlottetown arts community. The board, through its work, also encourages greater awareness to the general public the role that arts and culture plays in Charlottetown's society.

Mayor Clifford Lee said, "The City of Charlottetown has a vibrant cultural sector and it is important to maximize the many talents and creative abilities of people active in our arts community. We have established the arts advisory board to cultivate and affect the impact that the arts have in Charlottetown."

Committee members include: chairman, Spencer Campbell, Maria Driscoll, Erroll Monkley, John Morris, Claire Nantes, Mark Sandiford and Darrin White.

Campbell said, "The board will bring broad oversight to this sector with our first initiative recognizing people who have given so much to our community by establishing Arts and Cultural Awards during 2014."

The Advisory Board reports to the economic development and culture committee at the City of Charlottetown.
