March 8 matinee of Pinocchio story added due to popular demand

CHARLOTTETOWN – Confederation Centre’s youth dance program, dance umbrella, presents the offbeat musical comedy, “No Strings Attached” March 8 at the Mack, at 2 and 7 p.m. Thirty-three members of the senior and elementary musical theatre classes are coming together for this madcap adventure, weaving slapstick humour with soaring musical numbers.

dance umbrella students (from left) Julia MacVicar, Graeme Zinck, Emma Paquet, and Eden McFadden rehearse a scene from “No Strings Attached,” playing at the Mack on March 8 at 2 and 7 p.m.

"’No Strings Attache’d is a modern retelling of the Pinocchio story that is fun entertainment for all ages,” says Sandy Zinck, director. “Our senior students play the familiar characters including Pinocchio, Geppetto, Cricket, and Blue Fairy and our elementary students play the roles of the magical marionettes, the townspeople, and the bug chorus.”

The popular icon of children's literature gets a major makeover in this comedic adaptation. Aimed at kids and young adults, this musical edition puts a modern spin on things with plenty of clever dialogue and a wide range of song styles.

Due to popular demand, a matinee performance has been added at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, and tickets are already selling fast.

“It is great to work with different age groups in the same show,” says Wanda Naylor, choreographer. “There are appropriate parts for everyone to play and dance. The performers learn to appreciate the unique abilities and flavour offered by each group as they add their piece of the puzzle to the final work."

“No Strings Attached” features a large cast, including senior students: Jenny Dunne, Bethany Horrocks, Courtney Horrocks, Tristan Lewis, Julia MacVicar, Jade Myers, Aaron Ryder, Jillian Vessey, and Graeme Zinck.

Elementary students include: Della Arsenault, Sydny Birt, Anna Bowers, Adelle Breau, Catherine Cummins, Jenna Dawson, Grace Gauthier, Elizabeth Johnson, Marlee Lank, Isabelle Lee, Emma MacNeil, Milla MacVicar, Georgia Mallett. Noah Mannholland, Jill Matheson, Eden McFadden, Leia McMillan, Haley Murphy, Emma Paquet, Bethany Pineau, Charley Russell, Libby Smith, Micah Wiltshire, and Zora Wendt.

Tickets are available at the Confederation Centre box office at 566-1267, toll-free at 1-800-565-0278, online at confederationcentre.com, or in person.
