SUMMERSIDE — Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie (RVF) 2014 will be held this year from March 7 to 23.

The Société Saint-Thomas-d’Aquin (SSTA) and its community and government partners are preparing a wide range of activities in French for all Islanders.

These activities are all centered on the national theme “La joie de vivre d’hier à demain” (joie de vivre from yesterday to tomorrow) and a provincial subtheme “Célébrons la francophonie du monde” (celebrate La Francophonie around the world).

The list of activities will be released soon.

Joie de vivre brings to mind exhilaration, liveliness and light-heartedness, a feeling with which people associate Canada's Francophone and Acadian communities.

‘Joie de vivre’ means a good mood, a sense of humour and fun times. The provincial subtheme, inspired by the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference, emphasizes diversity and multiculturalism in a spirit of unity.

Les Rendez-vous will get under way on March 7 at 10:30 a.m. with the official opening ceremony at Government House attended by the Lt.-Gov. H. Frank Lewis, and SSTA president, Gabriel Arsenault.

The ceremony will be followed by a small reception.

The first community activity, a youth multicultural performance entitled ManiFest’A Francophonie, starts at 6 p.m. the same day at the Carrefour de l’Isle-Saint-Jean in Charlottetown. It will include theatre, a visual arts exhibition, a multicultural buffet and a performance in the evening.

Stay tuned to www.rvf.ca for the full list of activities or to participate in the “Write it right” contest for a chance to win $1,000.
