SUMMERSIDE — This week, across Prince Edward Island, Home and School Associations will join together to celebrate significant individuals who work with our children on a daily basis to inspire and prepare them for life.
P.E.I. Home and School Federation president Pam Montgomery
These people are the many teachers and school staff members, such as educational assistants, secretaries, bus drivers, custodians, crosswalk personnel and guidance counselors, who spend countless hours building the lives of Island students.
Since 1988, parents, students and community members have been celebrating Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week across Canada.
There is a resource page on the P.E.I. Home and School Federation’s website that includes a planning checklist, ideas for activities for each day of the week, tips for promotion and advertising, a sample announcement and ideas shared by other Home and School groups that have been carried out in the past.
In addition to honoring all those who work with students in the education system, the P.E.I. Home and School Federation takes the opportunity during Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week each year to highlight the outstanding contributions of two individuals with the Home and School Federation’s Extra Mile Award.
These awards are given to two individuals who exemplify what it means to go above and beyond the call of duty in their professions. The recipients of these awards will be honoured at a presentation in their respective schools during this special week.
“Teachers and staff go the ‘extra mile’ on a regular basis for P.E.I. students,” said Pam Montgomery, president P.E.I. Home and School Federation. “During the week of Feb. 9 to 15, parents are encouraged to take a moment to thank that special school staff person in your child’s life.”
