"Adventures in reading” column
By Mallory McKinney
It’s a new year and an exciting one at that. As P.E.I. celebrates 150 years since the Fathers of Confederation meeting that resulted in the creation of Canada, the P.E.I. Public Library Service has decided to take part in the anniversary in a big way.
To open the year, we are now offering a newly designed library card. This festive card is freely available for new members but our dedicated patrons are also welcome to make the switch over if desired. Stop in any time during our regular hours and sign up for a new membership or make the switch.
And don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for more events and initiatives that will be coming your way this year.
The Summerside Rotary Library is also very happy to announce that over the holidays, we installed a new computer system that will allow patrons to book computer time in advance online through our website at http://www.library.pe.ca/. You can also come in and book computers on the spot.
This new system allows for users to easily access our computer services in an independent manner. There is no need to wait for assistance in logging in, as you can now insert your library card number and pin number directly on the computer to gain access.
We are thrilled about the service and its efficiency and we think you may find it convenient as well.
As new year’s resolutions spring into action you may be considering new ways to become involved in your community this year. Think about becoming involved with the public library. The library serves as a hub of the community and we always welcome helping hands and ideas of how to invigorate the services and space we have to offer.
For more information on upcoming programming or becoming involved you can visit the library at 192 Water Street or give us a call at 436-7323. We also have our new Program Guides available, so feel free to pick one up on site or browse our online version.
