CHARLOTTETOWN – The City of Charlottetown is partnering with PEI 2014 Inc. in hosting this year’s outdoor New Year’s Eve celebrations on historic Great George Street in downtown Charlottetown.

"The City of Charlottetown is very excited to be hosting the New Year’s Eve celebrations, which will also mark the start of the 2014 anniversary year,” said Mayor Clifford Lee. "We look forward to welcoming Islanders and visitors alike to the capital city and historic Great George Street to ring in the new year together and kick off an exciting year full of special events and programs celebrating our city's historic role in the founding of our country.”
Traditionally, the City hosts Capital New Year in the Park at Victoria Park; however, it has merged its activities with the new outdoor family-friendly celebrations to ring in the celebration year of 2014. The outdoor New Year’s Eve celebrations will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 31, in front of Province House national historic site, along Great George Street and at Murphy’s Community Centre.
All outdoor and indoor activities are free to the public, with the City of Charlottetown providing horse and wagon rides, indoor bouncy rides, as well as hot dogs and hot apple cider. Many more complimentary family-friendly activities are planned as part of the outdoor event along Great George Street.
Indoor children’s activities at Murphy’s Community Centre will begin at 5:30 p.m., outdoor family activities will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with the outdoor celebrations coming to a close with a fireworks display at 8:15 p.m.
