Sobeys LIVE @ the Centre and Confederation Centre Youth Chorus present popular annual concert

CHARLOTTETOWN – With the holiday rush in full swing, what better way to unwind and make merry than with a charming holiday concert from the Confederation Centre Youth Chorus?

This Sunday, Dec. 15, the Youth Chorus will delight with “Sing Noel” – an afternoon of classic Christmas carols presented in the Homburg Theatre. The large youth choir will be joined by audience favourites Joey Kitson and host, Wade Lynch.

This is one of the last shows in the Centre’s main theatre before a major four-month renovation this winter that includes all new seats, and additional aisles, railings and catwalks for the now 50-year-old facility.

The Youth Chorus is led by Donald Fraser, musical director at Confederation Centre of the Arts.

"Young voices, great music, and Christmas – what could be better than that?" he says, amidst a busy rehearsal schedule for several holiday concerts. "The beauty and purity of these blended voices in three and four parts cannot be equaled."

Selections will consist of both contemporary and classic Christmas carols, including “Welcome Yule,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “In Bethlehem,” “Star Carol,” “Angel Tidings,” and “O Holy Night.”

“I find the tradition of ‘Sing Noel’ gets me in the Christmas spirit every year,” says Kitson, of Rawlins Cross, who makes this concert a regular part of his December calendar. “It’s a break from the hustle and bustle; gathering with family and friends to enjoy the sounds of the season. To me, that's the best part of Christmas.”

Fraser appreciates the pop rock sensibility that Kitson contributes alongside the youth choir.

“Joey brings the lighter side of the holiday season with some great swingin' tunes and classic Christmas tunes performed in the pop idiom,” he adds.

“Sing Noel”plays for one day only – this Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. Tickets for this and other choral music concerts are available at the box office at 566-1267, toll-free at 1-800-565-0278, or online at liveatthecentre.com.
