SUMMERSIDE – Toronto’s Ballet Jörgen will be returning to Summerside in the spring with their current production, “Romeo & Juliet” on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Harbourfront Theatre.

Toronto’s Ballet Jörgen will present “Romeo & Juliet” on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside.

Shakespeare's tale of love, anguish, and revenge is transformed into Bengt Jörgen's magical world of ballet. While remaining true to the original story, Jörgen focuses on creating a clear and emotionally driven journey into this timeless classic. “Romeo & Juliet” has sparked the imagination of many an artist and has inspired Jörgen to create a work of intimacy and warmth.

Acclaimed choreographer, artistic director and company founde Bengt Jörgen, said, “Our story of love begins with the smell of a rose and the prick of a thorn. The journey as two lovers unite and a mother defies – in the end it’s a story that’s more pure than dark.”

Jörgen adds, “Ballet reaches out and engages people on many levels – inspiring imaginations. It is a beautiful way to tell a story, to share a laugh or two – even a cry. I hope our production of ‘Romeo & Juliet’ will do just that.”

Ballet Jörgen Canada is recognized for the innovation, warmth, humour and beauty in its works. For 25 years, the organization has sought to advance the art and appreciation of ballet and Canadian choreography through performance, educational experiences and outreach.

While in Summerside, Ballet Jorgen’s dancers will offer outreach activities including workshops, repertoire and master classes for local dance students, with details to be announced early in the new year.

Tickets for “Romeo & Juliet” are now available at the box office and harbourfronttheatre.com.
