NORTH RUSTICO – All are invited to join family, friends and the community for the ninth Children’s Wish Walk with Renée at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, starting from the North Rustico Lions Club.
The walk is in honour of Renée Gallant MacIntyre, whose tragic death in 2004 was the result of an individual driving under the influence of alcohol.
Through the eight walks, more than $100,000 has been raised for the Children’s Wish Foundation.
Established in 1984, the Children's Wish Foundation is a national non-profit organization dedicated to fulfilling a favourite wish for children ages three to 17 who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.
Approximately 900 (three a day) wishes are granted annually; each of these are an individual adventure/project, carefully structured to meet the needs of the particular child. Each year across the country, participants walk in Wishmaker Parades and raise money to fulfil children’s wishes.
Participating in the Walk with Renée or the other Walk for Wishes events on P.E.I. on Saturday will help “to create the magic of a wish”.
Registration for the North Rustico walk starts at 1 p.m.
Renée and her husband John were killed on Aug. 28, 2004, days after returning from their honeymoon in France.
Because of contributions at the time of her death and the organization of Walk with Renée events in North Rustico, Bedford, Ottawa, Calgary and St Albert (Alberta), the Children’s Wish Foundation has been able to grant 10 wishes in Renée’s memory.
