The Charlottetown Islanders hockey team will be serving spaghetti Wednesday at Eastside Mario's restaurant in Charlotttown to raise funds for breast cancer awareness.
The spaghetti dinner fundraiser in support of breast cancer awareness is being held Wednesday, Oct. 9, at East Side Mario's in Charlottetown.
There will two sittings, the first from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and the second from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Islanders vice-president of operations Trent Birt said the dinner, which has been held annually for the past several years, gives the team a chance to connect to the community while also raising funds for a good cause.
"Cancer affects pretty much all of us. We're just happy to be able to lend our players to the cause," said Birt.
The dinner also gives fans the opportunity to see players in a different zone, he said.
"People support our players all year and this is an opportunity for them to sit back, relax and have our players wait on them," he said. "It's a fun night and it's something we're certainly honoured to be able to help out with.”
Mike Roberts, general manager for Eastside Mario's, said the night is part of the restaurant's volunteer initiative to give back to the community.
"It's great to be a part of this and to be able to have the Islanders join with us," he said. "It's a lot stronger when there are two parts together."
The dinner is also a hit with the kids, said Roberts.
"It really brings a smile to kids' faces, being able to meet their local hockey heroes," he said.
Both sittings will also see prize draws for Islanders merchandise and Eastside Mario's gift certificates.
One of the draws will be for eight tickets in the Murphy's Group of Restaurants corporate box for the Islanders game on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. The Islanders will don their pink jerseys when they take on the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at Eastlink Centre.
That game will see a raffle held by the Run for the Cure committee where fans will be able to support the cause while also having a chance to win one of the unique jerseys.
The $15 dinner includes, bread, spaghetti a beverage and $5 voucher for another visit to Eastside Mario's. Tickets are available at Eastside Mario’s, CIBC branch locations and the Charlottetown Islanders Business office. You can also order by phone at 892-7349.
