SUMMERSIDE - Following a successful first season, which began in November of last year, Filmworks Summerside is ready to launch Season Two with an opening night film event on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Opening night is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Summerside Empire Theatres Studio 5. Sponsored by TIFF Film Circuit and featuring the acclaimed music documentary film "20 Feet From Stardom," admission to the season opener is free. No tickets are required although moviegoers are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Filmworks Summerside is affiliated with Film Circuit, the successful non-profit outreach division of the Toronto International Film Festival, which co-ordinates a network of more than 180 community groups in 160 locations across Canada to help them access quality Canadian and international films that would not normally play in smaller markets.
Last spring the Filmworks Summerside audience participated in Film Circuit's annual People's Choice Awards by voting online for their favourite Canadian and international films of the previous year. With the highest percentage of its audience voting in this promotion of all Film Circuit groups across Canada, Filmworks Summerside won a screening sponsored by TIFF Film Circuit, resulting in the free admission to the season opener.
"20 Feet From Stardom," an Official Selection of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, is directed by award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville. In his latest foray into the subject of rock 'n roll history, Neville shines a spotlight on the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the late 20th century, taking an unprecedented look at the moving personal journeys of these normally uncelebrated artists and paying tribute to their indelible role in popular music.
With an early start to this second year, the Filmworks Summerside audience can look forward to a full season of at least eight films, with the possibility of added bonus films as the season gets rolling. Screenings are scheduled for the second Wednesday of each month, September to November 2013 and January to May 2014, with a typical start time of 6:30 p.m. Season passes will be available for purchase on opening night and later at Samuel's Coffee House or Lefurgey Cultural Centre.
The second film of Season Two will be shown on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and will feature "Unfinished Song" (formerly titled "Song For Marion"), an Official Selection of the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Additional upcoming films will be announced as they are confirmed. Tickets go on sale two weeks before each film.
