CHARLOTTETOWN – With love in the air, Sobeys Live @ the Centre serves up the music and splendour of the annual Valentine’s Cabaret on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
Crooners Catherine O’Brien (“Wizard of Oz,” “Separate Beds”), Joey Kitson (“A Matter of Heart,” “Canada ROCKS!”) and Wade Lynch, the centre’s associate artistic director and resident funnyman, fuse their talents with the rock-tight jazz trio of Don Fraser, the centre’s musical director, on keys, Deryl Gallant on bass, and Alan Dowling on drums. This collaboration sets the scene for a memorable night of romance, humour and jazz favourites, all nestled in an intimate venue – The Mack.
“We deserve Valentine’s Day,” laughs Lynch, as he prepares the night’s set list. “In the middle of winter, dressed-up in parkas and salt-stained jeans, it’s only natural to seek a little warmth with some vino, a bit of chocolate persuasion, some beautiful music, and a lovely someone inclined to a little mutual friction.”
The Mack is known to be a warm, cozy space with ample selection of wine and spirits; the perfect backdrop for a couple looking to make merry on the town.
Fraser’s jazz trio will support the three lead vocalists across a diverse set of sultry ballads, blues numbers and punchy jazz standards. The Cabaret includes classics such as “My Funny Valentine,” “Fly Me To The Moon,” “Honeysuckle Rose,” “I Don’t Want to Walk Without You,” “You’re the Top,” “One For My Baby,” and, believe it or not, “Down With Love.”
