Island favourites Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys serve up old-time fiddle tunes and country takes on Christmas hits with an energy level that practically yanks you out of your seat by the collar. MacKeeman’s amazing bluegrass fiddling and rousing tap dancing are complimented by his three Rhythm Boys who provide charming vocals and a foot-stompin’ performance on snare drum, upright bass and hollow-bodied guitar. Renowned for their expert musicianship and stagecraft, the ECMA-nominated foursome has turned heads across Canada and the United Kingdom, winning high praise from just about every fan and industry professional they encounter.
“Man for man there may not be a better roots band playing in Canada today,” raves Matthew Large, of Montreal’s Folk Festival on the Canal. “Booking them is a no-brainer.”
The engaging quartet will present a two-hour spectacle, mixing old-time country songs and rip-roaring Don Messer-style fiddle tunes with popular Christmas classics such as “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Run-Run-Rudolph,” “Silent Night” and “Mele Kalikimaka,” a Hawaiian-themed holiday song.
“Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys are thrilled to be presenting Christmas shows at The Mack this season,” says MacKeeman, from a pit stop on tour. “We'll be playing plenty of Christmas favourites old and new, mixed with some high-energy tunes and dance. It's a holiday hoedown that's not to be missed!”
