Arioso is a musical term that describes a short vocal solo with the lyrical quality of an aria. When the singing group Arioso was choosing a name, the term seemed to fit. To them, it captured the idea of singing with beauty and precision, singing with art.
After beginning in the fall of 2008, the group has seen a few changes in personnel. The current members have been together for the past three years.
The group consists of Claire Caseley Smith, Heather Coulson, Maureen Brennan, Angela Profit, Meghan McCarthy, Juliana Elsinga and Jennifer MacDonald. Each of the members brings with her a wealth of musical knowledge and experience, whether it is with choir singing, music education, piano accompaniment, or all of the above.
The members of Arioso work together to pool their knowledge and strive to produce high quality musical performances. During practice, they collaborate on choices of music, singing of parts and interpretation of style. They also have a lot of fun.
Arioso is a group dedicated to singing with beauty, but they are also dedicated to friendship and fun. They truly enjoy the bond of friendship that has grown within the group.
“It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” is the first of a number of concerts Arioso has scheduled for the upcoming month. Tickets for Sunday’s concert are available at the door (cash only) or may be reserved at spcsundays@gmail.com.
