CRAPAUD – St. John’s Anglican Church in Crapaud is presenting their first Parish Productions concerts with an “informal, down-home feel” this summer.

Topics :
Crapaud church , Church in Indian River , 2012 P.E.I. Country Recording Artist , Mary , Grahams Road , Louisiana

The church was designed by William Critchlow Harris in 1901 replacing the 1845 structure. It exhibits wonderful acoustics for which Harris was renowned – like the St. Mary’s Church in Indian River.

The first summer concert will be held on July 19at 7:30 p.m. and will feature three top Island artists.

Larry Campbell from Grahams Road who won the 2005 Male Vocalist and P.E.I. Songwriter of the Year awards. He was the founding member of two-time ECMA nominated band Bluestreak. Campbell also performed with Roy McCaull on the cable production, “Music of the Isle.”

Keelin Wedge is a fiddler, singer, step dancer and also plays bass, mandolin, guitar and drums. This young lady won the 2002 P.E.I. Classical Artist of the Year. She has entertained audiences on the Island, in Louisiana, U.S.A., and played for Anne Murray.

Rodney Savidant has been in the P.E.I. Music Industry for over 50 years. He sings and plays everything from country to rock n’ roll, and from easy listening to gospel. His gospel recording in 2004 won him the P.E.I. Gospel Recording of the Year award.

The second concert in this summer series will be Aug. 9featuring Simply Acoustics. This four-piece group performs bluegrass, country and gospel music. The members are Charlie Hansen on guitar and vocals, Glenda Johnston on bass and vocals, Trudi McAskill, vocals, and Peter Richards on banjo and dobro.

The season finale will be Aug. 23 with the 2012 P.E.I. Country Recording Artist of the Year, Kelley Mooney. She was also nominated for two other P.E.I. Music awards. Mooney is best known for her spiritual adaption of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

Admission for each show is $12 with children under 12 free. This admission includes a light lunch and a chance to win three door prizes at each show. These prizes were donated by restaurants in the Crapaud and Victoria area. Opening night will have a special third draw for a double pass to Victoria Playhouse.

Proceeds from these shows will be used for the ongoing maintenance of the heritage church building.

For additional information call 658-2333 or 855-2048.

Producer of the shows is Judy Bernard.
