VICTORIA – Rod Beattie returns to the Victoria Playhouse on Thursday, Aug. 11, with the second in the award-winning Wingfield Series titled “Wingfield’s Progress”.

Walt Wingfield, the captain of industry turned gentleman farmer, faces a new challenge in his second season on the farm. The spectre of urban development looms on the horizon and Walt sounds the alarm. Can he mobilize his neighbours to save the rural splendour of mythical Larkspur? Does Larkspur want to be saved?

“Wingfield’s Progress” is the story of Walt’s passionate response to a threat only he perceives. Larkspur and its residents are back at their hilarious best in this sequel to “Letter From Wingfield Farm”.

The Victoria Times Colonist called the production “a riveting and immaculately constructed little play, performed to perfection... Beattie electrifies the stage.”

Beattie has presented over 4,000 performances of the seven plays in the Wingfield Series over the past 25 years. He is one of the most respected and versatile actors in Canadian theatre. His extensive credits include radio, television, film and live performances across Canada, including appearances at The Stratford Festival, the Manitoba Theatre Centre and Theatre Calgary.

“Wingfield’s Progress” plays every night, except Mondays, from Aug. 11 to 28 at 8 p.m. with matinee shows on Sundays (Aug. 14 and 21) at 2 p.m.

For tickets call 1-800-925-2025 or order online at www.victoriaplayhouse.com.
