INDIAN RIVER – Music, midsummer, and culinary delights are all in store for music lovers this weekend at the Indian River Festival. Midsummer Magic, the Festival’s annual mini-festival will take place from Friday, July 29, through to Sunday, July 31, at historic St. Mary’s Church, Indian River, with three evenings of exquisite music at the height of summer.
Headlining this year’s ensemble of artists will be acclaimed Canadian soprano, Adrianne Pieczonka, who will be joined by mezzo soprano Laura Tucker, the Madawaska String Quartet and pianists Robert Kortgaard and Peter Tiefenbach.
The performers will appear each night in three separate programs covering a wide range of classical music.
Friday night’s program, titled “Mediterranean Adventure”, serves up a musical feast of variety, influenced by the sparkle and allure of the Mediterranean, and includes music inspired by sun-drenched Italy, Spain, and France.
“Saturday night at the Opera” salutes the drama, glory, absurdity and sublimity of the opera stage and will once again feature international star, Adrianne Pieczonka, who recently sang opposite Placido Domingo in a Met worldwide broadcast, and is heralded as one of the great sopranos of our time. Saturday’s show will also feature mezzo soprano, Laura Tucker, who has appeared at New York City Opera and major international houses, with upcoming, starring roles in Europe and with the Canadian Opera Company.
Sunday the theme turns to thoughts of love with a program titled “Love is My Reason” and will feature love songs by Chausson, Novello, Monnot, Verdi, Bizet and Offenbach in an evening of romantic classical music.
During intermission gelato will be available for sale on Friday night, cupcakes from Lucky Penny Cupcakes on Saturday night, and on Sunday night, with a theme of love songs, only chocolate will do.
