SUMMERSIDE - Summerside teen Rochelle Gamble is taking the city's beauty and well-being into her own hands.
To celebrate Earth Day, Gamble is inviting locals to help her pick up garbage around Summerside on Thursday, April 22.
"Our Island is getting covered in garbage," said Gamble. "It drives me nuts."
Gamble, currently upgrading at Three Oaks Senior High, participated in Envirothon last year with her friend Courtney Fitzgerald. Envirothon is an environmental education program for North American high school students. Fitzgerald moved to Halifax this year so Gamble has taken it upon herself to ensure Earth Day is not forgotten here in Summerside.
"I don't think people realize how easy it is to keep things clean. It's so easy to walk a couple extra steps to throw your garbage in a garbage can," she said. "I feel really bad when I think about how the planet is ours and we're destroying it."
Those who want to Gamble clean up the city are asked to meet at noon on April 22 in the TOSH parking lot. Helpers are asked to bring garbage bags and gloves.
Contact Gamble at 436-6167 for further instruction.
