SUMMERSIDE - Is she or isn't she? That's the question circulating around the College of Piping and Celtic Performance Arts of Canada.
According to published reports in Pipes and Drums Magazine, Karen Hatcher, pipe sergeant of the 33rd Service Battalion Pipes & Drums of Halifax, N.S., has been named the new executive director at the college.
The report said she began her duties with the college on March 1.
However, Ken Gillis, chair of the college's board of directors, said it isn't so.
"There's somebody in there doing work but nobody's been appointed director," he said Wednesday.
Gillis called the published report in the Pipes and Drums "premature."
"I can tell you we have not appointed any new director yet."
Gillis wouldn't say if Hatcher is the board's choice for the position, if in fact she has not already been named to the job.
"I would say we're going to make an appointment before too long," he said.
Hatcher would be the third executive director to head the college since the death of founding director Scott MacAulay in September 2008.
About a year ago Mike Paterson of New Zealand was chosen as MacAulay's replacement only to be dismissed after a few months.
Well-known Maritime musician Kendra McGillivray was selected last summer to take the reins but resigned four months later.
Hatcher could not be reached for comment.

Wow...this was an icon institute at one time...what is going on here Mr. Gillis? Mike had wonderful ideas for the college and was let go...why did Kendra quit? Very confusing...
