TIGNISH -- A West Prince RCMP officer was taken to hospital Halloween night after being struck in the face by a rock that was thrown through his cruiser window.
Several large groups of people were responsible for throwing rocks and bottles at police vehicles and officers throughout the night in the Tigish area, resulting in damage to three police vehicles.
The officer sustained a deep cut to his head after a chunk of asphalt was thrown through the window of the police car he was in.
Police have not received any reports of rocks or bottles being thrown at other vehicles traveling in Tignish, leading them to the conclusion that those carrying out these cowardly acts were targeting police.
Sgt. Jamie George said RCMP was disappointed in the reaction from the young people part of these large crowds and has been in contact with Tignish council to work on ways to curb these dangerous acts in the future.
Hopefully, this will address an embarrassing and shameful incident for the majority of citizens of Tignish, said George in a news release.
In total, 13 young people, ranging in age from 16 to 21, were arrested for various breaches of the peace.
Police also responded to several reports of nuisance fires being set and property being damaged. And, also in Tignish, police, town maintenance staff and the fire department were kept busy responding to nuisance fires and complaints of damage to town property.
QUIETER NIGHT FOR EAST PRINCE RCMP
With the exception of a few minor fires, it was a relatively quiet Halloween for East Prince RCMP.
Police attended a fire at a vacant home and also assisted the Tyne Valley fire department on a call of burning hay bales in fields and on the road as well as hay fires in the Wellington area.
Police also responded to a small fire behind Englewood school in Crapaud.
Later, in the early morning Thursday, East Prince RCMP responded to a disturbance call at a residence in Albany where one female was taken into custody and released later in the day.
Charges against the 27-year-old woman are pending.
Here is a roundup of the calls, 23 in total, that Prince District RCMP responded to on Halloween:
-One report of threats;
-Six reports of mischief under $5,000;
-Two minor motor vehicle collisions involving minor injuries;
-One false intrusion 911 alarm;
-One report of suspicious persons;
-One theft report;
-Two Fire Prevention Act complains; and

Watch out for anyone in Tignish called Jason. It's a giveaway. Also, watch out for his brother Jason, and his mother, firt cousin to his father, and aunt to Brittney, his step-sister.

Maybe the RCMP should not bother appearing in Tignish on Halloween. Let the kids run mad like their parents are letting them and trash the town. It is sad though because it is a few irresponsible parents that are making the community a discrace by allowing such crap in their community. I feel sorry for the responsible residents that have made Tignish their home and have to pay the price for the few thoughtless individuals that cause these issues.

It's hard to blame the parents when there kids tell them they are just going out in the local neigborhood and going trick or treating...... You know very well they ain't, but then again you can't accuse them of doing it, because they never admit it. I can see if the kids are 9-11 or so yeah u can tell them, but when they are 15 - 17. try to tell them what to do.

Unbelievable...where are the parents?? That's just brutal. They could have killed someone. How truly BORED are these kids to stand outside and throw huge rocks at cop cars? It's disgusting.

this is nobodys fault but the justice system here on the island. thats why they do these things and know they can get away with it. nowadays if a parent touches their kids they are hauled up in court for assault, years ago the kid got a palen or lathe in the behind and sent too bed ,not all kids are bad. nowadays kids don,t respect anything, spoiled rotten. and in the schools i agree they should bring back the strap. and as far as the mounties , they are just doing their job, but i myself think they should be stricker and there should be a curfew for 8 pm for all kids under the age of 21. anyone under the age of 21 caught out after 8 pm should be sent to the front lines in araq, its freedom of speech here in canada and that'ss my point of view, the justice system stinks

Joe, they can't bring mounties up from the states because the mounties are the RCMP, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, you know, our national police force?

Try getting your facts right Jason , The RCMP doing make 52,000 a year they make almost 72,000. Before overtime! Maby if you picked up a book instead of a case of beer you would learn some things. Tignish is a small town, it will take only a few days for the RCMP to learn who threw the rock and that person will be charged. Lets hope Judge Lanz will give this person some time rather then a 200 fine and 12 months probation which seems to be the norm around PEI!!!
