BOSTON, MA. -
The Boston Bruins recalled defenseman Adam McQuaid from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis. The Cornwall, P.E.I., native is traveling with the Bruins to Chicago tonight to take on the Blackhawks.
The two original six rivals will meet at 8:30 p.m. (ET) for the first of only two games this season.
This week the Bruins also recalled Andy Wozniewski on an emergency basis. Both players joined the Bruins for practice on Wednesday at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, Mass.
The team has also placed forward Milan Lucic on injured reserve.
The 23-year-old McQuaid has played in 29 games this season for Providence and has registered three goals and seven assists and 66 penalty minutes. Last year with the Providence Bruins, McQuaid had a 4-7 season for 15 points and 141 penalty minutes in 78 games.
He was originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round (55th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. McQuaid was traded to Boston from Columbus for a 2007 fifth round draft pick (Jamie Benn).
In "Bish's Blog" by John Bishop, posted at BostonBruins.com, Coach Claude Julien talked about the new Bruins he was bringing along to Illinois for tonight's game.
"I think both of those guys (Wozniewski and McQuaid) have pretty good size," he said. "Andy has some NHL experience. He's a guy that can move the puck well. I think he's second in scoring in Providence if I'm correct.
"And then you've got Mac, McQuaid, who is a pretty big, pretty tough, solid all around defenseman," continued Julien. "(He's) physical, and is very good at taking care of his own end.
"He keeps the game simple... and he's been playing well… lately."
Julien is excited to see what the two blueliners can bring.
"I think we've got two pretty good candidates," he said. "One who's joined our organization this year and has done a good job of giving us some depth and the other who I think every year has just gotten better and better (McQuaid)."
